Perfume Point to Change Name
A picturesque piece of the Ahuriri coastline named after a not-so-picturesque slice of its history is set for a name change.
Perfume Point, on the eastern spit of Ahuriri, is listed on websites and even Napier City Council maps of the area, but as the council site declares the name is a "whimsical" one, as it was applied by locals simply because the area once housed a sewer outfall. It is now set to receive an official name from the New Zealand Geographic Board (NZGB) as part of seven name proposals for places around the North Island.
